We are more than capable of hosting 2018 Women’s AFCON – NSA boss fires Woyome

The Director of the National Sports Authority, Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah has fired back at Kobena Mensah Woyome insisting that Ghana is ready and preparations to host the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nation are on course.

The response comes after the Member of Parliament for South Tongu described Ghana’s preparations and attitude towards hosting the tournament as disrespectful.

”There has been concerns if we are ready to host this event, we have to find solutions to this,”

”If we are respecting sports development policies, why are we not respecting the upcoming event and the Queens’ preparations towards that event.

”We would have given this a massive attention if it was about the Black Stars, so in this case we are not respecting the policies.” Woyome lamented in parliament during the 2018 budget debate.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based ASHH FM, Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah issued a response to the former chairman of the parliamentary select committee on Youth, Sports and Culture; “I have not heard what Kobena Woyome said on the floor of parliament and I don’t know the reason why he stated that Ghana is not ready to host the women’s AFCON.

However the National Sports Authority headed by me in collaboration with the Sports Minister Hon Isaac Asiamah and his Government are putting things in place to host the tournament”

“We believe we have the capacity to host and win the AFCON” he concluded.

The 13th edition of the the biennial international football championship organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the women’s national teams of Africa, will be held in Ghana, from 17 November to 1 December 2018.
