The Man Abdallah Abubakar (Northern Regional Minister), Bawumia’s waterloo…..!!
The appointment of Abdallah Abubakar as Northern Regional Minister is seen by many political watchers as a calculated attempt by the Governing National Democratic Congress to neutralize Dr Mahamoud Bawumia’s political influence on Mamprugu which has witnessed a significant decline of the party’s fortunes in the last general election.
Dr Bawumia, a native of Mamprugu and two term unsuccessful Vice presidential Candidate of the New patriotic party has led a campaign of vicious propaganda to snatch all the traditional NDC parliamentary seats in the area which saw the party losing some of them in the 2012 general election.
There is every indication that the NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate is poised to do even greater damage to the NDC considering the fact that he has been base in the area with little attention to other parts of the country and continues to campaign with tribal sentiments over the last three years.
Many are those who believe that the appointment of Abdallah Abubakar (Abuba) couldn’t have come at any better time since he is better placed to champion the crusade of redeeming the Governing party’s political fortunes in the area and beyond. Abuba who previously contested the walewale constituency parliamentary elections in 2008 and 2012 on the PNC ticket and currently the NDC parliamentary candidate for the 2016 election has consistently demonstrated enough political resilience and shown greater grassroot mobilization skills over the period of his political life.
Abuba is an astute Governance and Development practitioner with over fourteen years practical experience in Social Change and people centred-development processes, community and civil society work in the area of mobilizing and building capacities of people to participate and influence development agenda, building networks of civil society, influencing local government planning and development agenda at district levels through to national level policy making and reforms at the national level.
His professional experience in non-profit social development work spanning across four (4) international non-governmental organizations (INGOs); Catholic Relief Service (CRS), Corporative League of USA (CLUSA), Ibis West Africa, ActionAid Ghana and ActionAid international. Positions Abuba held in these organisations are; Community Facilitator in CRS, District Development Facilitator in CLUSA GAIT program I, Deputy Zonal Coordinator in CLUSA GAIT II, Zonal Coordinator in CLUSA GAIT II, Programme Facilitator in Ibis west Africa in Alliance For Change Project, Programme Director of Public participation in local Governance programme, Programme Manager of the Northern Region rights programme of Actionaid Ghana and Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA), Advisor with the People4Change programme under the auspices of MS ActionAid Denmark. Until his appointment to the office of Northern regional minister, Hon Abdallah Abubakar was a Human Rights Based Approach Advisor at ActionAid International, Malawi.
His vast experience and knowledge of issues of development at the community level and a proven skills in grassroot mobilization in championing the welfare of the underprivileged and deprived societies certainly depicts him as a man who appreciates the developmental challenges of his people and the entire northern region at large. His name has since become a household name in the entire Mampurugu area and the love for his personality has equally been growing like wild fire across the region. No wonder the NPP in the Northern region led by their two (2) term failed Vice presidential candidate Dr Mahmoud Bawumia are frustrated and looking confused with no apparent convincing political message since their tribal campaign has come crushing on their face with no hope of making any further progress.
