Tamale to host FAGRO 2017

The Tamale metropolis will be hosting this year’s National Food and Agriculture Show (FAGRO) 2017 scheduled on Tuesday September 26th at Tamale Sports stadium.

The 8th National Food and Agricultural Show (FAGRO 2017) which is a 5 day  exhibitions and capacity building programs for the agric business sector in Ghana is under the theme, “Creating Jobs in Agriculture – Northern Region In focus”.

According to organizers, the theme for the FAGRO 2017 has been carefully selected to educate and showcase to the public, the various jobs and potential jobs, within the Agric sector and how to earn a living from it.

This is the first time the program is being organize in the Northern Region and is it expected to boost and promote agri-business from Northern Ghana to rest of the world.

Speaking to the press, the General Manager of FAGRO Madam Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, said, the 8th National Food and Agriculture Show (FAGRO 2017) is envisaged to contribute to the development of Agriculture in the Northern Region.

She noted that, organizers of the program pick the Northern region this year because of the enormous potential of the agriculture sector and agri-business opportunities in the area.

Madam Alberta added that, the 2017 National Food and Agriculture will further exposes and put the Northern region on the world map as an agri-business destination in Africa.

In attendance at the Opening will be H.E. the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, H.E. Ron Strikker, the Kingdom of Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, the Hon. Minister of Food and Agriculture, the Hon. Northern Regional Minister, Managing Director of Yara Ghana.

DISTRICT DIALOGUE : 1 DISTRICT,1 FACTORY FACTOR – Planting for Food and Job In-FOCUS

 

The district dialogue is to provide a platform for District Directors, Regional Agric Directors and the Civil Society to discuss how each district is shaping up to take advantage of the Government’s “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative and its impact on the community livelihood. The Agriculture sector expanded by 3.6% in 2016, exceeding its targeted growth of 3.5% for the same period. The Crops sub-sector (including cocoa) accounted for over 70% of this sector’s contribution to GDP and was on target with a growth rate of 3.3% in 2016. Forestry and Logging and Livestock sub-sectors exceeded their targeted growth, registering 4.1% and 5.3% respectively.  Government has projected a growth of 3.5% in Agriculture for 2017 and has introduced various initiatives to drive this growth – key among which is the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ initiative- an initiative designed among others, to encourage individuals to take up farming either full-time or part time.
