Tamale to host 2017 MTN FA CUP

The Tamale Metropolis will be the centre of attraction in the world as it host this year’s MTN FA Cup grand finale at the Tamale sports stadium.

The 2017 MTN FA Cup is slated on 29th October.

The Ghanaian FA Cup, currently known as the MTN FA Cup for sponsorship purposes, is the top knockout tournament of the Ghanaian association football.

The Northern Regional Chairman of the Football Association, Alhassan Abdulai puts on the bid for Tamale to host this year’s tournament.

The live draw for the MTN FA Cup was held at the M Plaza Hotel in Accra, yesterday, Tuesday August 22, 2017.

The bid was between Esipong sports Stadium (Cape Coast), Baba Yara Sports stadium (Kumasi) and the Tamale sports stadium.

This is the first time the MTN FA coveted trophy will be held in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale.

Meanwhile,  four teams including Wa All Stars, Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Ashanti Kotoko and Medeama SC will play the semi finals at the Lenclay Stadium in Obuasi, on the 1st of October, 2017.

Wa All Stars will lock-horns with Accra Hearts of Oak whilst the Cucupan warriors Kumasi Ashanti Kotoko will battle with Medeama SC on the semi finals of the MTN FA Cup.

The winners of the semi finals will then play for the coveted MTN FA trophy.

The winner of the 2017 MTN FA Cup will pocket Ghc 50,000 cash prize and products worth Ghc15,000 from MTN.

Again, an additional amount of Ghc 100,000 will be given to the winner if the club decide to participate in the 2018 CAF Confederation cup.

The Northern Regional RFA Chairman,  Alhassan Abdulai who lobbied hard for the Tamale Metropolis to host this year’s MTN FA Cup grand finale, said the tournament will further enhance the enthusiasm among football fans in the region.

Mr. Alhassan Abdulai popularly known as Abu Imoro said, the world will once again witness the hospitality of the people of the North.

He hinted that, the 2017 MTN FA Cup grand finale will not only promote sports development in the region but will also put Tamale on the football map of the world.

Mr. Abu Imoro added that, the rich cultural endowment of the North will be showcased as fans and visitors to the Tamale stadium will be treated with the best of cultural displays and dance.
