The Sagnarigu Municipal of the Northern Region has entered a sister-city relationship with the city of New Orleans in the United States of America.
The relationship between the two cities will bring about mutual benefits for the people of Sagnarigu and New Orleans.
This cooperation between Sagnarigu Municipal and New Orleans based on shared traits is commonly aimed to improve the relationship between cultures and individuals and in the long run spur the growth and development.
The Sister City relation with New Orleans also facilitates networking in economic, culture, education, and various fields of cooperation between the two cities.
At a short introductory ceremony in the palaces of the Chief of Sagnarigu, the Municipal Chief for Sagnarigu Hon Iddrisu Mariam said, the relationship between the two cities bring more investment to the area, adding that, a lot of discussions have already been taking place to ensure that the sister-city relation with New Orleans is strengthen for the benefits of both cities and their countries.
She said areas of investment opportunities have already been tabled to attract American investors and businesses through the paradiplomatic relations with New Orleans.
Hon Mariam announces that, the assembly is planning to use the part of the Agric forest as mini zoo to attract tourists into the Municipality.
She added that as part of job creation and keeping the Sagnarigu Municipality clean, the Assembly will also establish a recycle plant.
“The Assembly alone cannot do everything but I am very optimistic that through this sister-city relationship with New Orleans will be get investors to invest in these laudable projects”. He said
The leader of the delegation from New Orleans, Madam Erica Buckner said, she was so excited the about the cordiality shown to her and her family at the Sagnarigu Chief palace, saying that, she feels like home again after she visited the area 2009 to do a research.
Madam Bucker said, she has dedicated her life in community development and service where she has the people in mind and their needs.
She as part the Sister-City relationship between New Orleans and Sagnarigu, Sagnarigu will witness a lot of community development, adding that, there will be an exchange programmes between the cities to share and learn.
Madam Bucker hinted that, very soon they will be expecting some 20 people from the New Orleans (USA) who will visit the Sagnarigu Municipality for sharing of ideas and exploiting the business opportunities in the area.
The Chief of Sagnarigu, H.E. Naa Abdulai welcome the New Orleans delegation and thanked them for showing much interest in the development of the Sagnarigu Municipality.
He said the area is full of potentials and opportunities and therefore called for more collaborated efforts between the two cities.
“On behalf of the chiefs and people of the Sagnarigu municipal area, I wish welcome you whole heartedly to Sagnarigu …Sagnarigu is the traditional capital and the seat of the Municipal Assembly… We are indeed very pleased at the great work that you have been doing in New Orleans and in Ghana with the local committee to promote the sister-city relation between Sagnarigu and New Orleans. It is a great pleasure to all of us and you see that the welcome the committee decided to accorded you…on your arrival… it is a sign of great expectation for things to come in our relationship that we hope will be a mutual benefit to the people of New Orleans, Sagnarigu, Ghana and to the US in general… this is people’s diplomacy and we pledge on behalf of the people and sub chiefs, chief of Tamale and his elders, the people of Tamale as well because the Municipality is compose of huge chunk of towns and villages under the jurisdiction of Gukpegu, which is Tamale, then Sagnarigu, so we pledged that we give all the cooperation require to make sure that the sister city relationship between New Orleans in America and Sagnarigu Municipal in Ghana takes off for the mutual benefits of our people” Chief of Sagnarigu
The Coordinator for the Sister City Programme between Sagnarigu Municipal and New Orleans, Mr. Dawuda Shaibu Pumaaya said, the both cities have a mutual benefits through its sharing and exchange programmes.
He said, the investment opportunities in the Sagnarigu Municipality will be exploited to create more jobs and expand businesses among the people especially the rural poor.
Mr. Pumaaya said, the delegation from New Orleans were overwhelmed with the royal reception received at the Sagnarigu Chief’s palace and therefore thanked the His Royal Highness the Chief of Sagnarigu and his elders for the warm reception.
The New Orleans delegation was led by Madam Erica Buckner Boyd and her husband Mr. Wilson Boyd.
The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly was led by the MCE, Hon Iddrisu Mariam, Presiding Member, Hon Mohammed Awal, Sagnarigu Assembly Woman, the Coordinating Director, Finance Office and other officials of the Assembly.
