The District Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Hon Mariam Iddrisu has commissioned a girls’ model school to encourage more girls to school.
The girls’ model school with only 30 girls is a temporal classroom block situated at the Choggu Demonstration Junior High School.
According to the DCE, a girls’ model school is suppose to have a classroom structure, dormitory, IT center and teacher quarters but the improvised classroom is a startup of a proper model school aimed at curtailing the high school dropouts among young girls in the municipality.
She revealed the Chief of Sagnarigu have given the assembly 7 acres of land to construct the girls’ model school in the District, adding that, the assembly is currently working on the documentation of the lands to start the project.
Hon Mairam said, the assembly expected a lot from both the pupils and tutors for the success of the girls’ model school which is geared towards girl child education.
She noted that, apart from the regular curriculum of the school, the girls will also go through leadership skills and training to propel them future leadership roles.
The DCE said, the President, Nana Akufo-Addo is gender sensitive and a crusader of girl’s child education thus the importance attaches to the girls’ model school.
The Sagnarigu DCE encourage the pupils to study very hard and become good future leaders, “you are the future leaders of this country but you have to start now so that one day all of you can occupied very important positions like DCEs, nurses, doctors, engineers, teachers and even the president of the republic”. The Sagnarigu District Education Director, Mr. Alhassan Mustapha tasked tutors of the school do their utmost best for the benefit of the pupils and the entire municipality.
The Headmistress of the School, Madam Tongo Stellah, said, they will put in all their best to give the girls’ the needed tuition they required, adding that, the girls’ will also be trained to be vocal and how to express themselves at any time.
She therefore on behalf of the school thanked the DCE and the assembly for recognizing the importance of girl child education.
Miss Ocansey Moreen a pupil of the model school who could not hide her excitement said, for the introduction of the girls’ model school she will have been a dropout, “ a very glad today to part of this school. Most of us will have been dropout of school if not for this model school. We are very grateful to the DCE and GES”.
