Sagnarigu DCE clears land for the first Sagnarigu market Lansah Lolly:

The Sagnarigu District Assembly has cleared  a 10 acres of land for the establishment of the first market in the District.

The market when completed will be the first 24/7 local market in Northern Ghana.

People in the district have been trading and doing business in the Tamale metro markets (Central and Aboabu Markets) even after the creation of the Sagnarigu District out of the Tamale metropolis some years ago but the DCE for the area, Hon Iddrisu Mariam upon assumption of office some months ago announced the construction of ultramodern markets in the district.

The Sagnarigu District assembly will provide some shades for now and gradually will construct market stores for traders.

According to her, the markets will not only boosts the assembly’s revenue but will improve local trade and businesses within district.

Hon Mariam told the press that, the assembly is making everything possible to make the district a business hub within the Northern Region.

She said, the Sagnarigu District is the center of the Northern Region that shares boundaries with four districts including Savelugu/Nanton, Kumbungu, Tolon and the Tamale metropolis.

Hon Mariam hinted that, the Assembly will create business opportunities for the people in the district adding that, the Sagnarigu market will be marketed and promoted to attract businesses and investors to the district.

The DCE for Sagnarigu said, the district is abound with business opportunities thus the market to boost businesses in the district.

She explains that, traders will not longer suffer to send their wares to the Tamale markets, “my fellow women who trade and do business at the Tamale markets will now trade at their comfort zone and make money”.

She revealed that, assembly has set up a market planning committee in-charge of the market, saying that, the market is expected to start operating this year.

Hon Iddrisu Mariam said, floodlights will be installed around the market to light up the place during late evening trading events.

The Sagnarigu DCE said, the assembly will collaborate with business organizations especially the Banks to booost trade and businesses in the district.

Meanwhile, Assembly is calling on traders and business men and women to register for their market space.


The Sagnarigu market which is located behind the palace’s of the Chief of Sagnarigu has been gravelled awaiting the commencement day.
