NDC Council of Elders donates to malnourished children at TTH

The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has donated an amount of one thousand five hundred Ghana cedis to two children suffering from acute severe malnutrition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

Severe acute malnutrition is the most extreme and visible form of undernutrition. Its face is a child – frail and skeletal – who requires urgent treatment to survive.

Children with severe acute malnutrition have very low weight for their height and severe muscle wasting. They may also have nutritional oedema – characterized by swollen feet, face and limbs. About two thirds of these children live in Asia and almost one third live in Africa.

Severe acute malnutrition is a major cause of death in children under 5, and its prevention and treatment are critical to child survival and development.

The donation by the Council of Elders of the NDC follows an appealed made on Facebook by  a journalist and also the CEO of Smile Life Foundation-Ghana, Mr. Hamza Lansah Lolly.

The organisation is a local charity organization based in the Northern Region.

The children, Mohammed Ibrahim, 3 yrs and Sadat Issifu 11 yrs have been battling with acute severe malnutrition for some time now.

Mohamed Ibrahim was admitted to the TTH some months ago where he recovered within a month. He was therefore discharged from the hospital but the health of the boy deteriorated at home thus the NGO brought him back to the TTH.

Whiles, the 11 year old Sadat Issifu has been on admission for the past two weeks.

The former Deputy Minister of Women and Children and Deputy High Commission for Saudi Arabia in the erstwhile NDC government, Hon Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba who made the presentation on behalf of the council of elders said, they were touch by the health condition of the boy and therefore decided to support.










She said, the thousand Ghana cedis have been given to the NGO basically for the feeding of the baby and any other bills relating to the health of the baby.

The former Saudi Arabia deputy High Commissioner therefore hope that other people would come and support for the necessary health care to be provided for the baby.

Hon Hajia Hawawu Boya also presented an amount of Five hundred Ghana cedis cash to the mother of Sadat Issifu and urged her to be patient.







Hajia Azara Mahamadu, member of the NDC Council of Elders urged the hospital staff to take good care of the children and pray for the Almighty God to touch the children with His healing powers.

The Chief Executive Officer of Smile Life Foundation-Ghana, Mr. Hamza Lansah Lolly on behalf of the children thanked the former Deputy  Women and Children Minister and the NDC Council of Elders in the Northern Region for the kind gesture.

He said, the donation will be use for the purpose it was given and therefore made a passionate appealed to other individuals and organizations to come to aid of the children.

The Doctor in-charge of Children’s ward, Dr. Harvoh Enoch said, the children are responding the treatment, adding that, they have been monitored for 24 hours.

He also behalf of the hospital thanked NDC Council of elders for their benevolence, saying that, the donation will go longer way the help the children recover.
