Mrs Bawumia donates BECE revision pack books to schools in Savelugu Municipality Lansah Lolly:

Her Excellency, the second lady of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia has noted some BECE revision pack books to Junior High Schools within the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region.

The revision pack books contains past questions from all subjects including, Mathematics, English, French, Integrated Science, Social Studies, ICT and RME. Again, the revision contains the chief examiner’s report and exams guidelines.

The Second Lady’s humanitarian gesture is dubbed “BECE Revision Project” under her humanitarian NGO, Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian project.

150 revision pack books were distributed to all the schools in the Savelugu Municipality.

According to one of the Project Coordinators of SEHP, Hajia Hafsa Abdul Karim who presented the books on behalf of Mrs. Samira Bawumia said the initiative is to enable tutors impact the needed examination guidelines and knowledge of exams practices to students, adding that, the BECE Revision Project is aim at reducing poor examination performances at the junior high level across the country.

“The reason is because of the poor performance, Savelugu has been performing poorly for the past 5 years, her Excellency decided to support them with past questions to help in the revision process before the exams”. She said

“We are donating to districts that are always on the bottom, we started with Pusiga, Walewale, Gushegu, Tatale… we doing this hopeful by next year all of them will do well”.

Hajia Hafsa is very optimistic that with the aid of the revision pack book students will get the best grades after writing the BECE exams, “we are expected that this year more students will past their BECE exams with very good grades, we have only 10% passing so we expecting that for this year at least 30%-40% should pass, Her Excellency is so passionate about education, we need to carry everybody along”.

The Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project under its education initiatives have so far distributed 35, 000 books to 35 schools across the country. Second Lady’s NGO is expected to distribute 600,000 books to schools that will benefit 50,000 students this year.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu, Hon Hajia Ayishetu Seidu thanked the wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Samira Bawumia for her humanitarian gesture, saying that, the donation of the revision pack books will go a long way to improve educational standards in the Municipality.

She said, the books will put into good use, “We cannot just take the books without putting them into proper use, if you decide to put it down you will end up not doing anything, it will mean that the students that we are supposed to teach to pass their exams will end up not achieving anything”.

Hon Ayishetu noted that, the Second Lady’s interest in education in the Municipality will further boost all stakeholders to put their best to improve the BECE performance in the area.

The Municipal Education Director, assured Second Lady of putting the books in good use, adding that, the education unit will monitor to ensure the books are used for the benefit of the entire Municipality.

Over 40,000 students are expected to write this year’s BECE in the Savelugu Municipality.
