Former President Fft. Lft. Jerry John Rawlings has said, he will at least jail 3 to 5 people who may be caught littering the city of Accra weakly to ensure the capital city of the country reclaim it’s beauty.
The former President is the new Ambassador of Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Greater Accra Sanitation campaign.
The campaign is to applaud individuals, houses and companies who keep their surroundings clean in Accra and punish others who live it unkempt.
H.E. Jerry John Rawlings said the position given him as the Ambassador of sanitation particularly cleanliness of the capital city is a ceremonial one, and he is now going to utilized the position and would make sure at that at least five people are prosecuted and jailed weekly for flouting sanitation rules or laws to deter others.
Speaking at this year’s Asafotufiami of the Chiefs and people of the Ada Traditional Area, Mr. Rawlings raised concern over how people litter and dump refuse haphazardly throwing the capital city, Accra into a den of filth.
The former President noted that sanitation in the country especially in the capital city is very appalling, saying that, the current situation calls for a concerted effort by every Ghanian to take sanitation of the country serious to reverse the disturbing trend.
Former President also asked Ghanaians to help the Nana Addo led government to move the country forward.
