The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Mr. Akilu Sayibu has commended His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for naming the Tamale Sports Stadium in memory of the late Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Ali u Mahama.
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo at the flagstaff house some weeks ago announced to named the Tamale Sports Stadium in memory the late Vice President, who he said has save the country with discipline and honest.
This gesture according to Mr. Akilu does not only portrays President Nana Addo as a man of his words but a President who recognizes the important role play by the late Vice President in the country’s development, “since he had promised in the past to name the Tamale Sports Stadium in remembrance of the former Veep, but also keep the memory of the late Aliu Mahama alive not only in Northern Ghana but also within the World of Sports”. He said
The GEPA Deputy CEO speaking to the press in Accra after the President’s announcement said, the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama was a sports enthusiast and Founding Member of the Real Tamale United (RTU) who also supported upcoming sports persons in the Region in various ways until his death on November 16, 2012.
Mr. Akilu said, Alhaji Aliu was also very instrumental in the citing of the edifice in Tamale.
”He advocated strongly for its citing in Tamale and I thinks that naming it after him is one of the many things that can be done in his memory”. He stated
Various activities are currently underway to mark the 5th Anniversary of the death of the late Aliu Mahama.
The President, Nana Akufo Addo, is expected to perform the naming of the Tamale Sports Stadium as the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium at a ceremony in Tamale on December 10, 2017.
Many Ghanaians of Northern extraction and beyond are particularly happy about this idea and hope that it will inspire many from the North to strive to become like the Late Vice President who cherished discipline, truthfulness and honesty in all his endeavours.
