The Former Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nashiru Issahaku has acquired a majority stakes at defunct Guan united which is now known as Tamale City football club.
Dr. Issahaku acquired more than fifty (50%) percent shears making him the president of the newly launched Tamale based club.
Following the takeover of defunct Guan utd, the new board have made a lot of changes to the club including the technical and the management team.
Players who wish to play for the newly launched Tamale city fc will be made to justify their inclusion.
The team has adopted the Aliu Mahama sports stadium as its home grounds and the Northern Senior High School (Nobisco) park as their training field.
Guan utd was acquired and renamed Tamale city fc by a group of business men who constitute the board.
Notable names amongst the board include, business man Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, brother of former president Mahama, Mr. Jones Abu Alhassan Abdul Fatawu board secretary to Real Tamale United (RTU) sporting club.
Others are, former Ghana Football Association president Alhaji Lepowura Mohammed Nurideen Dawuda Jawula, relatively unknown Mr. Abdul Somed Iddrisu and Mr. Michael Darku an investment banker amongst others.
Tamale city fc was launched at a shot ceremony held at the Aliu Mahama sports stadium Wednesday afternoon.
In a brief remarks, president of the club Dr. Nashiru Issahaku revealed his priority is to grow a team that will be the best in the country.
He disclosed the first task is to qualify the team from the lower division to a premier division club and then subsequently win the league, a feast intended to attain within a season.
He further stated Tamale city fc is a project for development that seeks to bridge the gap that exists between the North and the South.
Dr. Nashiru Issahaku however revealed the emergence of Tamale city fc is not intended to rival Real Tamale United (RTU) but rather to create a level ground for competition.
A member of the board who doubles as the interim Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jones Abu Alhassan announced at the launch Tamale city fc will be managed by former Dreams fc and and Bechem utd coach Manuel Coelho Zacarias.
He further disclosed the Portuguese tactician
who holds a UEFA Pro License A certificate will arrive in the country next week. The coach will be assisted by former Ghana international Hamza Mohammed.
Tamale city fc has two famous colours which includes gold that symbolizes power and wealth, and blue which signifies Royalty. Tamale city fc also has an eagle and a ball as it symbol, which means the team will fly at greater height.
The team is nicknamed The Golden Eagles and the motto is “Nobiscum Deus” this is driven from Latin which means “Only God”.
