The aspiring Northern Regional Chairman of the New Partriotic Party, Mr. Adam Mohammed Samba has congratulated His Excellency the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the 2017 AU Gender Champion award, conferred on him by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on Monday named the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as the “AU Gender Champion” for 2017.
President Akufo-Addo was given this award at the opening ceremony of the 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, which is currently on-going in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In making the announcement, the President of Guinea, His Excellency Prof. Alpha Condé, who is also the Chairperson of the African Union, explained that the decision taken by UNECA to confer this award on President Akufo-Addo is “in recognition of your efforts in gender equality at continental level.”
It was for this reason that UNECA, therefore, named President Akufo-Addo as “the African Union Gender Champion for the year 2017.”
Prior to the receipt of this award, the President had, earlier this year, been appointed as Chairperson of the AU’s Committee on Gender and Development, by the AU Chairperson, President Alpha Condé.
In a press statement to congratulate the President, Mr. Samba said the AU award has demonstrated efforts made by President Akufo-Addo to bring equitable development to the people of Ghana.
He stated that, all the pro- poor policies and programmes by the Nana Addo government are indiscriminately, adding that “even appointing officials for various positions in his government has so much parity”.
The Northern Regional NPP Chairmanship hopeful popularly known as Chairman Samba said the coveted AU award would further encourage and enhance President Akufo-Addo’s programmes in the area human resource development and equitable development for all Ghanaians.
Chairman Samba who is also the current Chairman of the Council of Patrons of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region therefore asked for God’s blessings and protection upon President Akufo-Addo.
