Some Northern youth are calling on the President Nana Akufo-Addo to revoke the appointment of the Deputy Agriculture Minister, Hon William Quaitoo for making disparaging remarks about the people of the North.
The Minister in an interview with Star FM in Accra describes the people of Northern Ghana as liars and difficult to deal with.
Farmers in the three Northern Regions whose farms were destroyed by the fall army worms have been calling on government to compensate them for their lost but the Deputy Agriculture Minister responding to the issues on the Accra based radio station describes the farmers claims as extortion and lies.
“If anybody who is in the North and said his farm was destroyed by fall army worm the person must prove it. Our brothers (in the North) it is so difficult to deal with them. I lived there for 27 years. I speak Dagbani like a Dagomba and all that. They are very difficult people. Nobody can substantiate. If anybody says that his farm was destroyed by army worm, the person would have to come and prove it. We have no records of that. It’s just a way of taking money from the government…that’s what they do all the time…” He said in the interview
Mr. Quaitoo remarks have incurred the wrath of the Northern youth who thinks that the ethnocentric comments of the Deputy Minister deserve chastisement and immediate removal from office.
They posited that, the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon William Quaitoo is unworthy of his position and therefore urged the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to sack the Deputy Minister immediately to serve as a deterrent to other appointees of his government.
Speaking to savannanews24.com, Mr. Bashiru Abdallah a farmer whose farm was invaded by the fall army worms stated categorically that, “I’m totally flabbergasted… I have lost a lot through this fall army worm invasion but the Minister could not console me…now he call us (farmers) liars?”
