Mr Akilu Sayibu, a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, has told Journalists in Tamale that the late Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, will be very happy in his grave for the renaming of the Tamale Sports Stadium as the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale at a very colourful and impressive ceremony.
Mr Akilu Sayibu stated that the late Vice President was so passionate about the development and also peace and welfare of the North.
According to him, the presence of chiefs from both the Abudu and Andani gates as well as members from the various political parties, especially the NDC and the NPP, is something that will particularly excite the late Vice President of Ghana.
Mr Sayibu also explained that the naning of the Tamale Sports Stadium after the late vice President is the first greatest monument standing in his name and would serve as a permanent edifice to inspire Northerners from all backgrounds and professions to emulate the positive attributes of the late Vice President for which the Sports Stadium was named after him.
The late Aliu Mahama was a lover of soccer and did a lot for the development of football in not only Northern Ghana but also the entire country.
The renaming ceremony was performed by His Excellency, Alhaji Dr. Mahamud Bawumia who stood in for the President of the Republic.
