The MCE for Sagnarigu, Hon Iddrisu Mariam has called on men to support the growth and development of women in all endeavors of life.
According to her, women cannot develop themselves without the support of men, “We cannot do this alone, we need the support of men to able to achieve gender parity and women growth in our communities”.
The MCE for Sagnarigu who speaking at this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration at the Radach Memorial Hotel, Tamale said despite the immense contribution of women in the Ghanaian economy, women still lacks behind in various endeavors.
The theme for this year’s celebration is dubbed ” Press for Gender Parity”.
Hon Mariam said, the theme for the celebration is very appropriate especially in the three Northern Regions where the issues of women need holistic approach.
She said, “The gender dynamics within the three Northern Regions have deepened the concern for gender parity advocacy and our desire to achieve gender equality by year 2050 as envisioned by the UNDP’s Sustainable Development Goal 5 cannot be realized without the active involvement of the press “.
“All nations and governments are entreaties by Goal 5 of the SDG to work towards gender parity by 2050”. He added
The celebration brought together women from various endeavors and communities.
The Director for Youth Empowerment for Life, Madam Jawol Vera Magan called on government to as a matter of urgency to fast-track the affirmative action Bill.
The event was organise by Youth Empowerment for Life, Justice Radio, support by STAR-Ghana.
