Tamale floods victims wants 1989 broken Tamale Dam rehabilitated

Victims of the Tamale floods have made a passionate appealed to His Excellency the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to as matter urgency rehabilitate the Tamale Dam to curtailed the perennial flooding the metropolis.

Hundreds of houses were submerge today following a heavy downpour in the Tamale metropolis.

The rain which early hours of today, Tuesday destroys several properties and left thousands homeless.

Unconfirmed reports revealed that, two children have been taken away by the flood. The rain have also drawn a woman her car.

Floods victims said the cause of flooding in the area is as a result of the damage Tamale dam and therefore blamed authority for not doing any to rehabilitate the Tamale Dam.

The Tamale dam in 1989 overflowed boundaries and got broken that kill several lives and properties worth billions of cedis at that time were destroyed.

The main Ghana Electricity Company building was submerged destroying all vital machines and documents at the yard.

It is estimated that, about 500 houses were destroyed and rendered over 2,000 residents’ homeless.

One of the victims, Hajia Sumanya Wumbedoo said, annual flooding in the area have been going over 25 years now and therefore appeal to the government to come to their aid …“we have been appealing to the authorities to come to our but no help is coming. And this is situation we find ourselves every year”.

She said, her has been submerge, “Family and I don’t even know where we are going to sleep today. All our things have been destroyed by the flood so we are appealing to the government to come our aid.
