As the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP gathers momentum towards its next delegate’s congress to elect their party officers, many activists in the party have disclosed their intentions to contest as executives in the northern region. The latest to join the trail is a professional land surveyor, Alhaji Yakubu Sibdoow.
In an exclusive interview with North Star news, Alhaji Sibdoow revealed his ambition to vie as the northern regional treasurer of the NPP. He said as somebody who has served the New Patriotic Party in various capacities, his aim is to support the party at the regional level.
According to him, his active participation in the party’s activities started in 1991, when he used to join party meetings at the residence of the late Alhaji Yahaya Iddi. He noted having an intention to ensure the development of a party is different from contributing in your capacity to manage the affairs of the party.
He revealed that, he has been working with Mr. Ken Ofori Atta, the current Finance Minister under the Akuffo Addo government in a committee since the party was in opposition to develop software to raise funds for the party’s 2016 campaign. He indicated he has served in some committees including the financial committee at the party’s headquarters. Alhaji Yakubu Sibdoow observes that the funding of political parties is crucial activity a party cannot do away with, considering a party in government to run its internal elections.
The surveyor reiterated his vision to establish a secretariat to manage the funds of the NPP in the northern region. He bemoaned the lack of an office complex to manage the affairs of the party funds and assets manifest in individuals siphoning the resources of the party.
“I want to setup a secretariat because I have observe with my experience in fundraising that sometimes a lot of people want to support the party either in kind or cash but they do not know the procedure, they don’t know which channel to follow, so sometimes funding normally end up in individual hands rather than the party. Because if anybody supporting the party must go away with an evidence to prove that you have supported the party financially or in kind and that is where documentation is needed. So if there is a secretariat, you must be able to come to the secretariat, meet somebody at the office so that the person will explain the process to you, where your items or money will be needed. If it is needed at a certain constituency level, they explain to you that, Bunkpurugu constituency are in need of a motorbike to run their campaign, yes somebody is coming to give a motorbike but the person doesn’t know how to get the motorbike to Bunkpurugu Yunyoo simply because there is no secretariat where he can go voluntarily to present the item so that it will get to them and yes when that item or money is to sent to the constituency, there should be a communiqué back to the secretariat to be given the person as evidence” he stressed.
“Today people want to occupy government agencies and other institutions and they are telling us that, I supported the party when we were in opposition, I did this and that, we ask what evidence shows that your complaint is genuine and final the person will tell you that, I gave Mr. so, so and so one thousand Ghana cedis, if it is the law court this oral evidence cannot help you” Alhaji Sibdoow said.
