Savelugu to get ultra-modern market-MCE

The Savelugu market will receive a major boost under the one constituency-one million dollars initiative of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led NPP government to promote local businesses in the Savelugu/Nantong Municipality.

The market which was built 4 decades ago is a one line huge structure with stores.

Though, there are some block sheds at the market however, over 90% of the market structures are in thatch sheds.  The market has also not been enclosed living the market into the hands criminals.

The Savelugu market is in so much disarray, no drainage systems and rubbish are scattered all round. Business at the market always comes to halt during raining days.

But the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Hon Hajia Ayisha Seidu disclosed that, the market will be rebuilt to an ultra- modern market with various facilities to befit the Municipal status of the area.

She said, the market is one of the priorities of the Assembly which has been captured under the one constituency one million dollar flagship programme of the NPP’s Nana Addo led government.

Hon Hajia Ayishetu said, the Savelugu market is one the busiest and most patronage markets in the Northern Region thus the need to rebuilt the market to a modernize market center.

“Traders over the Country including traders from Kumasi, Techiman, Accra, Bolga and other areas visit the Savelugu market to do business. So it is the assembly’s number one priority to expand the market to generate more revenue for the assembly and also more importantly boost local businesses in the Municipality”. She said

Hon Ayisha said, the Assembly has earmark 5 priority projects in the Savelugu area under the one constituency-one million initiative including, construction of a poultry feeds factory, establishment of a Senior High School in Diare, extending of electricity to some communities and water project in Nyeko and other areas.

For the Nantong area, the MCE revealed that, the Nantong clinic which saves over forty (40) communities will be ungraded to a specialized clinic.

The Nantong area will get an ambulance, water projects and extension of electricity to communities. A Senior High School will also be established under the one constituency-one million dollars initiative.

The MCE for Savelugu/Nanton, who was speaking in an exclusive interview, reiterated that, the area is poised for massive development.

Hon Hajia Ayishetu Seidu said, with the cordial collaboration with all stakeholders in the Municipality including chiefs, opinion leaders and the youth, “Our Municipality will become a business destination in the region”.

Meanwhile, some notorious wee smokers have invaded the Savelugu market with impunity, as they took over sheds at the market.

Entering the market, one can smell the scent of wee (Marijuana) from afar.

Traders at the market have to relocate outside the market to the lorry Park due to the unbearable stench of wee smokes inside the market.

Some the traders said, it is very difficult to trade inside the market, “inside the market is not safe for us, because our sheds have been used as ghetto base”
