The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly has officially handed over a newly constructed three-unit classroom block to Katariga M/A Primary and Junior High School to enhance access to education in the area.
The new three-unit classroom block, a GETFUND project with its auxiliary facilities including an office, a store, toilet and urinal was constructed to increase accessibility in the school.
The Katariga M/A Primary and JHS is currently running a multi grade teaching system where class 5 and 6 sit in one class and JHS 1 and 2 also combined. However, the new block will mitigate the infrastructural deficit in the school.
The Municipal Education Director, Madam Samata Mahama handing over the keys of the new block to the school entreated that, the new block should be put to good use, since there was now spacious classrooms to accommodate students.
The Sagnarigu Education Director urged the headmaster of the school to monitor teachers of the school to ensure that they do their work as expected of them.
She explained that issues of classrooms had been a problem of the school, with them having to combine classes.
Madam Samata therefore thanked the Sagnarigu MCE and the Assembly for easing the situation for them.
“In fact, this has been one of the problems we have been facing; no classrooms, we have multi-classes with form 1 and form 2 students in one class. Now you have come to ease this situation, so we want to say that we are very grateful and thank you so much” She said.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Sagnarigu, Hon Iddrisu Mariam in an interview after the handing over ceremony disclosed that the assembly had prioritised education and was, therefore, committed to the provision of the needed infrastructural facilities in all schools in the Municipality.
She urged all stakeholders to play their roles to enhance teaching and learning in the municipality and admonished the school authorities to ensure regular maintenance of the school block to prolong its lifespan.
