Residents of Kalande in the East Gonja District of the northern region have embarked on a communal Labour to construct pillars on the Salaga-kalande road to avert water from washing the road away.

According to them, the recent flooding in Salaga township and it’s environs that led to the washing away of the Salaga-kpandai road is the reason for the exercise.

They explained that Kalande is the food basket of the District where yam is produced is commercial quantity and that leaving the road at the mercy of running water will affect them.

” we transport our yams to Accra to sell and this is the yam season so if we allow the rains to wash off the road all in the name of government will do, it will affect us. So we appealed to the member of parliament and he gave us 1,500 cedis to get sea sand and cement to construct a long pillar so we don’t experience any wash way” . One of them explains.

Meanwhile the member of parliament for the Salaga south constituency Hon Adams Salifu Braimah has presented cash amount of 1,500 to support the exercise.
