The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana has suspended the Nursing Assistant Clinical and Nursing Assistant Preventive programmes in the various health institutions in the country with effect from 2019 to 2020 academic year.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana in consultation with the Ministry of Health took the decision following the outcome of a desk review meeting held by the Ministry, N&MC, Ghana Health Service, CHAG, Teaching Hospitals and other stakeholders early this year in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
In a letter dated June 29th 2018 and address to All Deans, Heads and Principals of Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions, stated that, statistics shows that there are adequate number of NAC/NAP practitioners for the health sector and therefore directed the proprietors various institutional heads to plan towards the folding up the Nursing Assistant Clinical and Nursing Assistant Preventive in the institutions.
According to the N&MC, the suspension is to streamline and strengthen the degree and diploma awarding programmes in nursing and midwifery in order to improve the standard of practice of nursing and midwifery in the country.
