NORSAAC has launched the Citizen for Domestic Revenue Mobilization (C4DRM) to increase revenue collection in the Sagnarigu Municipal and the Zabzugu District Assemblies of the Northern Region.
The one and half year project is been funded by Oxfam.
NORSAAC, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) operating predominantly in the three regions of the North has initiated the C4DRM as a project under Gender and Governance.
The primary objective of the project is to find various ways to conquer challenges faced by Municipal Assemblies in generating needed resources to execute developmental projects.
The project also call for the inclusion of the local persons in devising numerous ways through which the Municipal Assemblies can mobilize more revenue. Again, the inclusion of local persons in the mobilization of revenue will not only create jobs for them but will increase their knowledge of the works of the Assembly in revenue generating.
The Head of Programs and Policy of NORSAAC, Hajia Hafsatu Sey Sumani speaking to savannanews24.com stated that the project is going to empower the various women and youth led organizations in the various communities who can help the assembly to mobilize revenue and also monitor it’s expenditure.
“The project will actually empower the various women and youth led organizations or groups in the various communities who can help the Assembly mobilize those revenue. We will also empower them to monitor the outlets, that is the expenditure of those revenue as well ” She said.
Hajia Hafsatu also explained that, the project was going to extend over a period of one and a half years since they has a one and half funding from Oxfam. However, she stated that it was their wish that it will be extended if the project proves it’s worth.
She further stated that the targets of the project will be determined after the Assemblies makes known to them their targets, adding that, when this is known the project will work towards increasing the target by 30% within the next one and a half years.
