NGO condemns attack on UTV crew

The Media Intelligence Solutions Limited (MIS), a media advocacy and research organisation based in the Northern Region has condemned an alleged assault on UTV crew by some aggrieved students of the  of the University for Development Studies (UDS-Nyankpala Campus), Saturday.

In a press release issued and signed by the Executive Director, Mr. Mohammed Fugu, said, the organisation fervently condemns the brutal attack on the innocent journalists, “The Media Intelligence Solutions Ltd believes that, the attack on the journalists is backward and an affront to Press Freedom and should not be condoned under no uncertain terms”.

The statement added “We admonish the university authorities to as matter of urgency investigate the allege assault on the said journalists and punish the culprits to serve as deterrent to others. We also call on the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to speed up and widen the scope of their investigations to enable them to gather enough evidence for possible prosecution of the culprits. We stand with the victims and wish them well”.

MEDIA INTELLIGENCE SOLUTIONS LIMITED (MIS) CONDEMNS ASSAULT BY UDS STUDENTS ON JOURNALISTS

On Saturday, October 6, 2018 United Television (UTV) news crew in the Northern Region was allegedly assaulted by some aggrieved Students of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Nyankpala campus.

The journalists were invited by authorities of the Nyankpala campus of the university to cover the 26th matriculation ceremony at the school. It is reported that, whilst, performing their legitimate duties, some hooligans led by the Students Representative Council (SRC) allegedly pounced on them and vandalized their motorbike and seized their camera tripod following the publication of the alleged sex party story.

As a result, the victims have been traumatized and have since reported the incident to the Tamale Metro Police Command.

After thoroughly chronology events, the Media Intelligence Solutions Limited (MIS), a media advocacy and consultancy organization fervently condemns the brutal attack on the innocent journalists.

The 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana guarantees Press freedom and under no circumstance in our current democratic dispensation should any individual or organization attack any journalist for carrying out their lawful duties.

The Media Intelligence Solutions Ltd believes that, the attack on the journalists is backward and an affront to Press Freedom and should not be condoned under no uncertain terms.
