For immediate release

NATIONAL PARLIAMENTARY VETTING COMMITTEE (NPVC) CAUTIONS NPP PARLIAMENTARY ASPIRANTS

On behalf of the NPVC for the Northern Region, I wish to send a word of caution to all stakeholders in the process leading to the election/selection of Parliamentary candidates especially as the NPP prepares to vet it’s Parliamentary Aspirants in the Region.

Having keenly monitored the political atmosphere in the region, it is becoming clear that there is a rising jaundice and animosity among supporters of the aspirants in some constituencies with some aspirants nursing intentions to transport their supporters to the vetting grounds. The result of which is likely to jeopardize the smooth and successful organization of the process.

The Chairman of the NPVC, therefore, admonishes all aspiring candidates to prevail upon their admirers and supporters to avoid all acts of tearaway, roughnecking and hooliganism in and around the vetting premises. Social media exchange of unprintable words should cease with immediate effect.

All aspirants must be reminded to avoid bussing supporters to the venue or hiring the services of motorbike riders or drummers which has the tendency of creating nuisance and by extension mar the beauty of the exercise since it is a simple exercise of passing judgement on party members who have contributed in one way or another in giving life to the party.

Constituency Executives must desist from taking sides in this contest. They must not openly declare support for a particular candidate since they are supposed to be neutral arbiters.

We are, therefore, appealing to all aspirants to whip their supporters into line in order to make the vetting exercise a success.

The party views this contest as an entirely internal one and the peaceful conduct of the primaries is non-negotiable.

Appropriate sanctions, including disqualifications and suspension from the party await aspirants who flout this caution.

The NPVC on this note wishes all aspirants well in the three day vetting exercise which starts on Wednesday, 14th August, 2019 and ends on Friday 16th August, 2019.

Looking forward to an incident free Vetting.
