The Mac Dan foundation has doled out a cash donation of GH10,000 to support the treatment of a baby who’s suffering from spinal disorder.
Parents of the baby Abdul Rashid Abdullah Alabira and Faiza Salifu both farmers, have been seeking to raise GH7,000 to pay For a yet to be conducted surgery on their two month old Baby boy Abdul Khalid Suhuyini.
Suhuyini was born on December 19, 2017 but has since been battling with what Doctors describe as spinal bifida.
The cash donation was made through the Dakpema palace to authorities at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Thursday morning.
The palace lobbied Mac Dan to support the course of the spinal surgery.
Mac Dan was recently Enskinned as the Gubgbai Naa by the chief of Tamale, Dakpema Naa Alhasan Dawuni as one of his subjects.
Representing the Mac Dan foundation, Mrs Abigail Mckorley presented the cash donation through the Dakpema Naa to authorities at the facility.
According to Mrs Abigail, GH7,000 was to take care of the bifida spinal surgery and the rest was meant to cushion the baby’s needs.
“On behalf of Mac Dan foundation and Mac Dan group of companies, we present this check of GH10,000 to support our baby to go through a spinal bifida surgery. We pray that the almighty God Allah will let her go through it successfully and come out very strongly and healthier than before “. Mrs Abigail said.
Receiving the cash donation on behalf of the hospital, lead Doctor at the facility Dr. Mumuni Alhasan thanked Naa Dakpema Alhasan Dawuni and his entourage for the their kind gesture and described the visit and donation as timely.
He however revealed the hospital do record quite a number of cases such as these and that about 5 to 6% of babies admitted at the new born care unit come with Congenital malformations.
Mr. Mumuni Alhasan also lamented conditions such as these are not covered by the general health care insurance in the country and that If parents do not get help, sometimes they take the babies home and in the end kill them claiming they are spirits.
Dr. Mumuni however revealed the hospital will soon commence treatment on the baby but was quick to add that, the surgeries are conducted in steps and that, initial preparations towards the surgery will be conducted to determine if the baby is fit enough For the surgery.
” Laboratory investigations will be done before a date is fixed for the real surgery”. Dr. Mumuni said.
