The former President, John Dramani Mahama has described the late former Tamale North Hon Alhaji Abukari Sumani as strong and devoted Muslim, who has made a lot of sacrifices and prayed for him (John Mahama) to succeed in his political endeavors.
Hon Abukari Sumani passed on last Saturday evening on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
His body was flown to Tamale on Sunday where he was given a befitting burial at the Tamale old cemetery.
According to Mr. John Mahama, the late former Tamale North MP took strong interest in his political career, “and I know many people will testify here especially the Imams, he would constantly from time to time buy a cow and called the Imams and asked them to sit…slaughter the cow shared the meat and say prayers for me…I want to make that testimony in his honour… and he will do it without telling me but people will come and say oh Alhaji call Mallams… they sat, sacrifice the cow and they prayed for you … So I want express my gratitude to him”.
The former President who was expressing his condolences at the final funeral rites of the late Tamale North MP, Hon Abukari Sumani in Tamale, said, the galaxy of people present at the funereal shows how good the late MP was with people, “So I wish to express my sincerest condolences to the family but to also add that he was a devout Muslim… so I’m sure God received him in heaven”.
He said, the late MP was a very important member of the NDC bench in parliament, adding that, as the Chairperson of the Muslims Caucus in parliamentary, Hon Sumani was the first person to introduce the night of power in parliament, “I was the first guest of honour he invited to the night of power and after that it became regular feature on the parliamentary calendar”.
The former President urged the bereaved family and well wishers to continue to pray for the late Alhaji Abukari Sumani.
A lot of dignitaries from both the Ghanaian political divide graced the late Hon Alhaji Abukari Sumani final funeral rites including, the Former President’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama, Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South Hon Haruna Iddrisu, Tamale North MP Hon Alhassan Suhuyini, , Sagnarigu MP, Hon A.B.A Fuseini, Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, Historian Lawyer Alhaji Ibrahim Mahama, Former Foreign Minister Alhaji Lawyer Mumuni, Former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku, Former CSIR Director General Dr. Baba Salifu, Former Northern Regional Minister Mr. Moses Mabengba, NDC Regional Chairman Mr. Sofo Azorka, and among others.
Members of the NPP were also led by the Northern Regional Minister Hon Salifu Saeed, Deputy Energy Minister, Dr. Mohammed Adam Amin Anta, former Northern Regional Mr. Prince Imoro Andani, Youth Organizer Alhaji Rashid COP and among other.
