The Akim Oda Member of Parliament Hon William Agyapong Quaitoo has said that, he resigned as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture to allow peace to prevail.
Hon Quaitoo received widespread condemnations after he made disparaging comments about the people of Northern descent.
Mr. William Agyapong Quaitoo on Tuesday evening tendered his resignation letter to the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In a farewell message to his former colleagues at the Agric Ministry, the resigned Deputy Minister of Agriculture said he resigned to bring peace and save the President Nana Akufo-Addo from attacks.
He said: “Thank you all for your kind words. In addition to the sincere apology, I resigned to bring peace among all those who were offended and to save the President and the entire party from further rancour and disaffection’.
“The party is bigger than any individual member. I pray for a better future for all of us. Good night.” copy from pulsegh.com
Meanwhile, the resignation of the Deputy Minister has received widespread applauds among the Ghanaian public but also many question the actions of the President Nana Akufo-Addo as to whether he (President) will have heeded the many calls to reprimand the Akim Oda MP.
The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Hon Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini said, the country has won the first war against tribal bigotry.
Hon Suhuyini commended the decision of the Akim Oda MP for resigning from the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP Government but quick to add that the 27 years stay of the embattled MP for Akim Oda in the North has really instilled humility in him thus his remorsefulness.
He wrote on his Facebook wall:
“Finally GHANA wins first war against tribal bigotry. If only we were this united against such bigotry in the past. Sadly the NPP as a party which should have, once again said nothing in condemnation, the NPP presidency said nothing. The Dep Minister graciously resigned and I commend him. He learned “BILCHINSI” in his 27yrs in Dagbon” Hon Alhaji Alhassan Suhuyini
