The former Deputy Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs in the erstwhile NDC government, Hon Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba has described the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela as the mother of Africa who have inspired and empowered Women across the world through her struggles for free world.
Hon Boya Gariba who joined hundreds of people across the globe to pay tribute to Winnie Mandela who died on Monday at the age 81, praised the former Wife of Nelson Mandela for fighting against the apartheid regime in South Africa.
After months of feeling ill, Winnie Mandela has passed away in Milpark hospital in Johannesburg on 2 April 2018.
The former Deputy Minister of Women and Children, who also serves as the Deputy High Commissioner for Saudi Arabia in the President John Mahama’s NDC led government said the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela will be remembered for her strong conviction against racism and gender inequality.
Hon Hajia Boya who spoke to Savannanews24.com also wrote on her Facebook page;
“Africa will miss you, the world will miss you, we all are crying. Mama Africa, May your soul rest in peace”.
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was a firebrand activist who fought the apartheid regime in South Africa. She was far more militant than South Africa’s first black president, her ex-husband Nelson Mandela. She also became a critic of the African National Congress (ANC), the party to which she was fiercely loyal throughout her political life.
The anti-apartheid campaigner and former wife of the late Nelson Mandela will be given a state funeral next Saturday, and before that, there will be memorial services and vigils held across the country.
