The District Chief Executive for Zabzugu in the Northern Region Hon, Ahmed Abukari Iddrisu Adakwa has implored the youth in the Zabzugu district and Ghana at large to see the old in the society as heroes and role models whom they can all emulate in order to make Ghana greater and stronger.
He was speaking on the occasion of the 57th Republic Day and Senior Citizen’s Day Celebration held at the Zabzugu District Assembly residency today 1st July, 2017.
Hon, Ahmed Iddrisu, explained that the youth are blessed to still have a lot of senior citizens whose experience can be tapped to improve the way the youth conduct themselves towards the development of themselves and Ghana as well.
The DCE also appealed to the senior citizens to make their experience readily available to the youth who are currently the crop of the nation’s workforce in order for them to build on the good foundation laid by the senior citizens.
“ Today, there are many concerns about the decay of morals and the lost of National Identity by the current generation. If we want to be honoured and celebrated like our fathers and mothers here, we need to reexamine our lives and act in ways that will compel our countrymen to honour us in the future”
He however reiterated the need for the youth especially those in the Zabzugu district to uphold the peace of district and Ghana at large, saying, there are political, chieftaincy and other differences, but that should not be allowed to erode the peace and unity the country is enjoying.
Meanwhile some Senior Citizens who were present at the occasion expressed their delight on the honour made to them by President Akuffo Addo through the DCE Hon. Ahmed Iddrisu Abukari.
They said, the honour is unprecedented in their lives since they started serving the nation to their retirement.
One Alhaji Mahmud Baba who also spoke on the occasion, said, he will die as a hero considering the honour made to them.
“ Today if I die, I will be happy because I have died as an honoured hero ”
The Senior Citizens prayed and blessed the DCE and also promised to make themselves available for any advice at anytime both for the DCE and the youth of the Zabzugu district.
