The former Northern Regional Correspondent of Joy Fm, Mr. Mahama Sayibu has urged government not to treat the Abudu Royal family with kid gloves on the recommendations of the Otunfuo committee since that could constitute a threat to the peace in Dagbon.

Mr. Sayibu, a renowned journalist and the Secretary to the Yaa Naa Memorial Leactures said, government should endeavour to implement the decision of the committee of eminent chiefs without fear or favour.

Mr. Mahama Sayibu, in his London based today issued a statement on the recent renewal of mediation between the two feuding gates of Dagbon, Abudus and Andanis at the Manhyia palace, Kumasi said, the priority of the Andani family at this material moment is about how to find a successor to Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani and not to make calls that have not yielded results since march 2002. “By this I mean performing his funeral to pave way for the installation of a new Yaa Naa, who obviously MUST come from the Andani family”.

The renowned Ghanaian Journalist and a member of the Andani Family in his statement entitled “Re- Finding the Killers of teh Yaa Naa” said, it does not matter who the next Yaa Naa should be once he is Andani and a son of a Yaa Naa.

Mr. Sayibu, observed that, focusing the attention only on arresting the killers will not only indefinitely postpone the performance of the funeral of Yaa Naa Andani but also stall the process of succession in Dagbon that is already looming, 15 years after his murder.

He said, the Andani family must not act in a manner to suggest that they are holding the Akuffo Addo government to ransom using the murder of the Yaa Naa.

RE-FINDING THE KILLERS OF THE YAA NAA
I read with interest a call by some Andani youth on the government to find the killers of the Yaa Naa amongst other issues. I do not intend to go into some of the issues since they bother on customary issues.
Much as I will support any move to get the perpetrators of the murder of the Yaa Naa punished, the institutional memory in me on the Dagbon conflict persuades me to realistically make the following observations’
That in my opinion, {and in the opinion of many Andanis that I know} the priority of the Andani family at this material moment is about how to find a successor to Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani and not to make calls that have not yielded results since march 2002. By this I mean performing his funeral to pave way for the installation of a new Yaa Naa, who obviously MUST come from the Andani family.
That it does not matter who the next Yaa Naa should be once he is Andani and a son of a Yaa Naa
That focusing our attention ONLY on arresting the killers will not only indefinitely postpone the performance of the funeral of Yaa Naa Andani but also stall the process of succession in Dagbon that is already looming, 15 years after his murder
That continuing to make such a call on government now after a long silence will question our own commitment to finding justice for Yaa Naa Andani who selflessly served Dagbon and should continue to win our sympathy even in death
That government should endeavour to implement the decision of the committee of eminent chiefs without fear or favour
That we must not act in a manner to suggest that we are holding the Akuffo Addo government to ransom using the murder of the Yaa Naa
That government should continue to ensure peace in Dagbon and endeavour to protect the life of the Kampakuya Naa and all Andanis to allay our fears
As a member of the Andani family I call on government not to treat the Abudus with kid gloves on the recommendations of the Otunfuo committee since that could constitute a threat to the peace in Dagbon.
Signed
Mahama Sayibu
Secretary Yaa Naa Memorial Lecture Secretariat
