The President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has announced that, the government is going to employ about 8,000 teachers to provide quality tuition to students in the Senior High Schools.
According to the President, this will accommodate the huge number of students who are currently enjoying the Free Senior High school policy introduce by his government.
President Akufo-Addo stated that, “the school free senior high policy which our opponent said we could not undertake has been undertaking, last 90,000 more young Ghanaians boys and girls attained secondary senior school than they have done the year before… this year the number is going to be double to 180,000 young boys and girls and in order to cater for this increase population we going to employ 8, 000 teachers this year in order to take care of this number of students”.
Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and people of Mamprugu at the Nayiri Palace as part his three day tour to the Northern Region, Mr. Akufo-Addo reiterated that, the government have taken various initiatives to ensure the development of the country is balance, inclusive and touches every part of Ghana.
Planting for Fond and Jobs:
The President said, the planting for food and jobs program is a deliberate government policy to improved food security and create permanent jobs for the Ghanaian people.
He revealed that, the Planting for food and jobs program, last year involved some 200,000 farmers across the country, adding that, about 500,000 framers will be engaged this year. “Our target by the end of the 4 years mandate we will have brought 1000,000 farmers into the program and we are on course to be able to reach the target”.
Supply of power:
The President said, a solution has been found to solve the erratic supply of power in the area, saying that, the transmission line that serves the area from Yendi is far too long and therefore results the interruption of power supply to the area. “A decision has been taken to remove the transmission line from Nalerigu to Garu…. Poles were brought yesterday to begin the work so very soon I think that erratic electricity supply in Nalerigu will be a thing of the past “
He said, the challenges of the National Health Insurance in area will be to attend to improve the quality of health service in the area.
Water Supply in Mamprugu:
The President said, the government has secured a loan from the World Bank an amount 45 million to provide water for rural areas in six region including Mamprugu, announcing that, the Walewale, Nalerigu and Gambaga water system will start in September this year.
“35, 000 gallons of water a day will be added to the system and drill more boreholes to add more water, all the pipes are going to be replace so that we can bring water to all household and with the beginning of works in September Mamprugu will definitely get an improve water system”. He said
The President said, the people will very soon witness a massive road infrastructure development in the area, saying that, most of the major roads that link up the whole Mamprugu area have been giving for contract.
The Mamprugu Overlord, the Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Shariga thanked the President for fulfilling some of his premises made to Ghanaians.
He said, Free Senior High school policy and Planting for food and jobs will undoubtedly bring the needed development to the people in the area.
The President after the Nayiri Palace also cut a sod for the construction of a 25.7km bitumen surfacing of Nasia-Janga feeder road project.
