A member of the communication team of the opposition National Democratic Party (NDC) in the Northern Region, Mr. Abdul Mumin Mohammed has faulted the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for not showing interest in the fifth anniversary celebration of the death of late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Prof Mills passed away in the afternoon of July 24, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital where he had been rushed to for treatment.
He was laid to rest on August 10 of that year at the Geese Park, now known as Asomdwee Park, close to the Osu Castle in Accra. He was 68.
President Mills was the first President of the republic to have died in office.
Today’s marks 5 years since his demise and a ceremony was held today at the Asomdwee Park, Accra to eulogies and celebrate his death.
Mr. Mumin popular known as General Amin in interviewed with savannanews24.com said, the current Akufo-Addo led government did not accord the former Ghanaian leader with respected, saying that, it is unfortunate a former leader to be treated this way.
He stressed that, the unconcern nature of the NPP government with regards to the 5 years anniversary celebration of the late President Mills is worrying, adding that, the day President Mills died brought spirit of oneness among Ghanaians and from 5 years of his demise should not be different.
“We just have to honour our heroes whether we like them or not, Atta Mills was fine gentleman whose death in my view brought all Ghanaians together, his death brought all political actors in the country in celebration of his life”.
Mr. Mumin said, the late Mills was a man of peace that gave him an accolade “Asomdweehere”, adding that, the late Mills legacy is worth emulating.
