His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admonish the people of Dagbon especially the two feuding gates Abudus and Andanis to work together for the final resolution of the prolonged Chieftaincy crisis in the area.
He said, the 15 years prolonged Chieftaincy crisis in Dagbon must end now to propel the area for massive development.
The President urged the people to follow and collaborate with the committee of Eminent Chiefs, including the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Overlord of Gonja Traditional Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I and the Mamprugu Overlord Naa Mahami Sheriga.
He said, the committee of the eminent Chiefs initiated by former President J. A. Kufour was to find a lasting peace to the crisis, saying that, the committee was responsible for finding the customary solutions to the issue.
H.E President Akufo-Addo therefore urged both the Abudu and Andani gates to respect the road map to peace instituted by both stakeholders of the Dagbon Chieftaincy dispute.
“I told you and I told all the members of the committee that it is their responsibility to find customary solution base on the usages and the practises of Dagbon with necessary accommodation and understanding to produce a formula that we can all follow for resolution of the crisis”.
“I told them that whatever solution they find which is in accordance with understanding of all parties and customary solution will fine favour in my government” he assured
President Akufo-Addo said this when he paid homage to the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abdullai at the Gbewaa palace in Yendi as part of his 3-day official tour to the Northern Region.
The President stated that, he has no interest in the outcome of the Dagbon road map to peace but he will be happy to see Dagbon progress in peace and unity.
“Let me once again assured you the Kampakuya Naa that I don’t have an interest in the outcome of the commendation… I want repeated, I’m not an Andani and I’m not an Abudu, I’m not even a Dagomba. I’m not interested in the outcome other then the peace and security of Dagbon”.
The President again assured Kampakuya Naa and the people of Dagbon that any official of his government who is seen to be impeding the resolution process according to customs and traditions of Dagbon will have him to play with.
He said, both the late kings of Dagbon, Yana Mahamadu Abdulai and Yana Yakubu Andani I were his friends and therefore will ensure that their sons and daughters are at peace.
” The crowning achievement of my first year as president of the republic is that when I come to Damba festival here the end of the year the greatest Christmas present that I can give to the people of Ghana is that there will be a new Yana sitting… I want to do everything a President can do to make sure that we get there ” he said
H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo hinted that, the Regent of Dagbon Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abdullai Andani father the late Yana Yakubu Andani I was his friend, ” Yana Yakubu Andani son, the Regent has nothing to fear from me… he is going to be very well look after in the process… his father was my friend and it will not be right if I do not treat his son right.. God will not forgive me and I want the forgiveness of God”,
The President there called on the Chiefs and elders of Dagbon to come together and collaborate with the necessary accommodation and compromise to bring the 15 years old protracted Dagbon Chieftaincy dispute to an end.
“So once again the people of Ghana will see Dagbon for what is Dagbon. One of the greatest historic state of our nation and we want to see it rise again”.
The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abdullai Andani in statement read on his behalf thanked the President for initiating policies such as the Free SHS Policy to enable more Ghanaian children into the senior high school.
The President also paid homage to the Regent of Abudu, Boling-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu and urged him to collaborate with the committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Otumfour Osei Tutu II for a final resolution of the Dagbon crisis.
The Boling-Lana thanked the President for his unprecedented leadership role and prayed for the blessing and protection of God upon him and his appointees to succeed.
The President was accompanied by Ministers of States, MPs, MMDCEs and some party executives and council of Elders.
